Egypt: Cruise on the Nile

Our boat The Sonesta Sun Godess is lovely. Many boats sail the Nile leaving ports on Aswan on Mondays and Luxor on Fridays. One can choose a three-five night excursion. Our boat has only  suites with balcony for each room, very spacious.  Just like most much larger cruise ships you have cabin stewards who are attentive and leave adorable surprises on our bed each afternoon.  Cruising the Nile is peaceful and quiet. A nice respite after an otherwise busy schedule.  Every day starts with excursions leaving at 7:30 to beat the heat and crowds.

 March 24, 2023 - March 29 Catching up on blogging after such a wonderful trip on the Nile is nearly impossible.  Our ship was lovely, the food, while not spectacular, was interesting and plentiful.  Everyone working on the ship was friendly and helpful. We had trouble with the internet service which is minimal. I don't think I've ever been on a cruise anywhere that this is not the case. Detaching for a while is a nice change.  Mr. Famous!! The one who started it all...King Tut! Once his tomb was found (1st by an Egyptian kid and the Carter) Pharoah fever spread world wide.   Tuts empty tomb. See his treasures in museums all over the world! King Tut's tomb discovered  King Ramses tomb Valley of the Kings The Nile makes for a calm and comfortable trip. We also traveled in a falucca sail boat. One similar to those used in ancient times. We were transported to an island to visit a temple by a motor boat. Travel Day

  Travel Day::  September 23, 2024 Planning, anticipation, worry and finally the departure day arrives. Goodbye Sunny San Diego. Hello London! It is possible to travel to Europe from San Diego. As I headed to my gate, I saw a flight headed to Munich and thought, humm, maybe next year?? But today I'm taking British Airway for a 10.5 hour flight direct to Heathrow. BA is a partner with Alaska airline so points can be accrued.  In premium economy one gets extra wide, comfortable seats, foot rests, leg room, a good recline, along with great food, wine, and plenty of entertainment.  I am not a sleeper on long flights so just a a bit of elevated comfort is a perfect choice for me.  This is the first time I am traveling alone for the first 5 days of my month long trip. I rationalize that I'll be fine. Marrakech: Final days of the Pilates Retreat

 April 7, 2023  Linda and I are in Lisbon. But I am catching up on the fantastic week we spent in Marrakech.  This week has been special in so many ways. Getting to spend a full week with my beautiful daughter has been wonderful. She pushes all of us to move in ways that test our strength and push beyond what we all think is possible.  Twice daily classes were mixed with plenty of wonderful excursions, food, and people.  Last meal at the Peacock Pavillion.  Delicious salmon  The dinner tent Lunch after the spa. A filo filled with ground nuts  cinnamon and chicken We have all shopped 'till we surpassed our suitcases capacity.  The culture of the Souk is fascinating and challenging with traffic that jockeys for room on narrow paths meant only for foot traffic.  We happen to wander down the fresh food street where a live chicken was about to get the cleaver in preparation for a patron's dinner.
